God wants us to be kind

This week the children at Emmaus will be learning about how God wants us to be kind.  The kids will be hearing the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37). They will be discussing the verse: “Love your neighbor as yourself” Luke 10: 27.  And they will be exploring the idea of “Neighbor.” Who is their neighbor? Who does God want them to be kind to?

Please help your child throughout the week to try to remember to be kind to family members and friends and even people who they don’t know. Encourage your child to pray for God’s help to make him/ her more kind.  Also, the kids will be encouraged to try to memorize the series’ key verse: Galatians 5:22-23. Help them practice reciting this verse.

Ideas for the week:

-Offer a family a couple hours of free babysitting (if you are old enough or volunteer as a family)
-Clean up trash in your neighborhood (This is being kind to your actual neighbors and to the Earth).
-Let someone get in line in front of you.
-Pick flowers for your neighbor.
-Donate toys, books, or clothes to a local organization in need:
-Loaves and fishes needs list: sacloaves.org/needs-list
-Create a care pack to give to a homeless person (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant) or buy a gift card to a grocery store or fast food restaurant to give to a homeless person.
-Make your teacher a gift and thank them and tell them what you love about them (it is Teacher Appreciation week).
-Read the book of Ruth. Discuss how Ruth is kind to Naomi. How is she an example for us? What other stories in the bible show true kindness?
-Write a letter to a grandparent and tell them how much you love them.
-Pick up your toys without complaining.
-Offer to help a neighbor for a couple hours over the weekend: cleaning, yard work, etc.
-Try to hold the door open for people wherever you go this week.
-Make a random acts of kindness jar: fill it with great ideas and draw from it every once in a while as a family.
